38122237-p-590_450Freiburg striker Papiss Cisse has declared his desire to play in the Premier League and believes he would be a “big success” in English football. The Senegalese soccer star has attracted firm interest from a number of clubs across Europe and has been strongly linked with Arsenal, Sunderland, Newcastle, Tottenham and Fulham.

Cisse, 26, has already scored eight times so far this season in the German Bundesliga off the back of 22 league goals last term – but he is eyeing a move to a bigger club as Freiburg battle to avoid relegation. “I want to test myself at a big club and I believe I would be a big success in England,” Cisse told Goal.com. “I watch the Premier League and I am pleased that people are talking about me in the same sentence as good clubs. My aim is to be the best I can be, we will see what happens but my club know my position.”

Cisse recently signed a new contract until 2014 on the understanding that he will be allowed to leave if Freiburg receive an attractive offer, most likely at the end of the season. The former Metz man has made it clear he is happy to stay at Freiburg until next summer and will not agitate for a move in the January transfer window.

“I respect the club and we have a good relationship, they gave me the opportunities,” Cisse added. “If I stay until the end of the season, I will do my best and remember how much they have supported me.”

As revealed by Goal.com in September, Sunderland has been leading the race to sign Cisse after making him its top target to replace Asamoah Gyan, who made a surprise loan move to UAE side Al-Ain until the end of the season and is not expected to return to the Stadium of Light.

The Black Cats’ manager, Steve Bruce, is desperate to strengthen his strikeforce in the New Year and will test Freiburg’s resolve to hold onto its star man.

One obstacle to a move to the Premier League in the January could be Cisse’s participation with Senegal in the Africa Cup of Nations, which will be co-hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

franck-ribery9English Premier League powerhouse Chelsea Football Club has been trying to pry midfielder Luka Modric from rivals Tottenham all summer. But it looks as if they are close to giving up on their efforts as the transfer window approaches its close. The London club has now reportedly turned its attention towards French Muslim midfielder Franck Ribery. Ribery currently displays his play-making abilities for German Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

Chelsea has already offered a reported 30 million pounds for Ribery, but Bayern Munich will reportedly not even consider any offers of less than 36 million pounds. The Blues are reportedly ready to pay Ribery a yearly wage of 10 million pounds per year.

Previousl Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelloti reportedly tried to sign Ribery, two years ago but was quoted a price of 88 million pounds by Bayern president Uli Hoeness. Ribery, despite his on and off the pitch struggles over the past two years, is still considered one of the most dynamic midfielders in the world. And Bayern paid a pretty penny, a record 22 million pounds, to sign him from Marseille in 2007. Ribery remains the highest paid player in the Bundesliga, at 180,000 pounds per week. He still has four years remaining on his current contract with Bayern Munich.

But the British transfer window is close to slamming shut. So Chelsea will have to make up their minds as to whether to go all out in their pursuit of the 28 year-old Frenchman.

Turkish Soccer Star Joins Spanish Giants

2011-05-09T110721Z_671877595_BM2E7590ZMO01_RTRMADP_3_SOCCER-SAHIN-REALTurkish midfielder Nuri Sahin announced this week that he will, as expected, complete his move from German champions Borussia Dortmund to the Spanish titlists Real Madrid at the end of the season. The 22-year-old Sahin has arguably been the most influential member of a team packed with potential, and, at 8.8 million pounds, represents a bargain in the current market. That reasonable price tag is a far cry from Real’s free-spending days, and it represents the changing economics of big time football.  And, given the relative success of German imports (and fellow Muslims) Sami Khedira and Mesut Oezil this past season, it makes sense that Madrid have once more looked to the German Bundesliga for a further infusion of talent.

In addition to joining Oezil and Khedira, Sahin also joins a couple of other prominent Muslims on the Real Madrid squad: French midfielder Lassana Diarra, and French striker Karim Benzema. Sahin brings further possession and playmaking to the Real Madrid midfield, and while Madrid already has a talented midfield, you can never have enough people feeding the world’s greatest striker, Cristiano Ronaldo.
