March 10, 2011 by TMO
SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY–In a first Suffolk County has named Nayyar Imam as the chaplain of the police department.
“This is a blessing. It could be a bridge between the Muslim community and law enforcement, which is very necessary. It’s a need of the time,” Imam said in an interview to CBS.
Imam said he knows the expectations are high and urges anyone with questions concerning the Muslim community to just ask.
“Talk to the people if you have any concern. Just don’t assume yourself if there’s something wrong with this community,” he said.
