Iranian footballer Sardar Azmoun has been plying his trade with Russian club Rubin Kazan. But the Daily Star is reporting that the young striker could soon be taking his talent to a bigger league and a bigger club. The English Premier League’s Arsenal Gunners, along with AC Milan of Italy’s Serie A are reportedly in advanced talks to try to acquire the the 19-year-old over the summer. And just who wouldn’t want the services of someone nicknamed the “Iranian Messi?” Azmoun joined Rubin Kazan in January of 2013.

Reports in Italy suggest that Milan are willing to offer the Russians £2m, but with Arsenal willing to exceed that sum. However, Arsenal right now does not know if they will be in the Champions League next year or in the less-heralded Europa League. And if they only qualify for the latter, it is possible that a young up-and-coming footballer such as Azmoun may turn his nose up at the club.

Asked about the rumors, Azmoun told Iranian television: “I have offers from three major clubs. Arsenal, AC Milan and Juventus. I also had an offer from Barcelona, but due to their transfer ban the club is out of picture at the moment. The talks with both Milan and Arsenal are getting very serious. Both clubs have spoken to Kazan. But for me it’s important to keep focus on Kazan. We have seven games left, I will decide after these games. I’m very proud to have Arsenal looking at me, but as I said, right now I’m only focusing on the Russian league.”

He added, “I’m really happy for such clubs being interested in signing me, and playing in Premier League would be a dream coming true.” Representatives of Arsenal and AC Milan are reportedly scheduled to meet Rubin Kazan officials next Thursday.
