aisam-ul-haq-and-rohan-bopanna-wallpaperPakistan’s top tennis player, and doubles specialist, Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and his Dutch partner Jean-Julien Rojer have reached the quarterfinals of the men’s doubles at the US Open this week. And so far their quarterfinal match is going swimmingly, as they lead 6-2, 2-2 in the second set of a match against Americans Christian and Ryan Harrison. The match has been suspended for the day due to rain.

Previously, in the third round, the Pak-Dutch duo beat Alex Bogomolov Jr. of Russia and Raven Klaasen RSA 6-3, 6-4 in a match that lasted almost two hours. But that two hours was the largest amount of exertion they had experienced in the tournament to that point, as a walkover and a retirement propelled Qureshi and Rojer all the way into the third round.
In the second round, their Argentine opponents Carlos Berlocq and Leonardo Mayer retired while trailing 2-1 in the first set. And in the first round, they got a walkover against the pair of Mikhail Kukushkin of Kazakhstan and Taiwan’s Yen Hsun Lu in the first round. Mayer’s withdrawal came after he was severely dehydrated during his men’s singles second-round victory over Spaniard Tommy Robredo on Friday. Although he recovered, he could hardly last three games in the doubles match against Qureshi and Rojer.

Qureshi was not as successful in the mixed doubles competition, as he and his and his partner Su-Wei Hsieh of Taiwan crashed out in the first round of the US Open after losing in the first round last week against Kveta Peschke of Czech Republic and Marcin Matkowski of Poland 6-4, 6-4 in a match that lasted a measly one hour and ten minutes.
