Aisam Ul Haq Qureshi of Pakistan defended his men’s doubles championship at the Gerry Weber Open last week, as he and his Dutch partner Jean-Julien Rojer defeated Scott Lipsky and Treat Huey in the finals 6-3, 6-4. The tournament took place in Halle, Germany. For Qureshi and Rojer it was a repeat of their defeat of Huey in the quarterfinals of the French Open doubles last month.

Qureshi and Rojer breezed through to the Gerry Weber finals after crushing Poland’s Lukasz Kubot and Russia’s Mikhail Youzhny, 6-2, 6-4. They had advanced to the semifinals after edging Sweden’s Johan Brunstorm and Germany’s Philippe Marx in a thrilling 7-6 (7), 6-7 (1), 10-7 quarterfinal match.

And their success hasn’t stopped in Germany, as Qureshi and  Rojer have now reached the men’s doubles quarter-finals at the Unicef Open in the Netherlands on Tuesday. Qureshi and Rojer overcame an initial stiff challenge to beat Alejandro Falla and Santiago Giraldo of Colombia in straight sets. The second-seeded pair bagged the closely-contested first set after a tie-break 7-6 (7-4). In the second set, they finished with ease by a 6-2 score.

The tournament, being held in Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands, is the pair’s last grass-court tournament before the Wimbledon Championships. The Gerry Weber Open was the pair’s second title as a team. Previously, they won the Estoril Open in Portugal.
