Prof.Samir Ahmed appointed to national safety committee

Oklahoma State University’s engineering professor Samir Ahmed has been appointed to the Transit Rail Advisory Committee for Safety, a national committee that provides information and advice on all matters relating to the safety of U.S. public transportation to the Secretary of Transportation.

“Our main goal is to help protect safety of the general public,” Ahmed said. “All the risks associated with travel must be analyzed.”

The 25-member committee meets bi-annually to vote on officer positions, make recommendations to the Federal Transit Administration and evaluate technological concerns.

Ahmed has been involved in numerous research projects sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration, Federal Transit Administration, Oklahoma Department of Transportation and the transportation industry. He hold degrees from Cairo, McGill and Oklahoma.
