The protests and complaints of Pakistani-British boxing sensation Amir Khan were finally heard, as his request for a rematch with American boxer Lamont Peterson was granted. The rematch will take place on May 19th.

Khan and Peterson fought to a split decision that went in favor of Peterson last December. The victory gave Peterson the new unified WBA and IBF light-welterweight championship titles. After the fight, Khan aired multiple grievances, chiefly referee Joseph Cooper’s deduction of two points, the judges’ scoring of the bout and the unexplained presence of ‘mystery man’ Mustafa Ameen at ringside. Ameen’s identity was ultimately clarified, and he his presence was deemed to be legitimate. Nonetheless, the fight was close enough to warrant a rematch.

Khan told the press, “I’m delighted that I have finally been given the chance to avenge the result of my last fight. It’s clear I wasn’t happy with what went on in the previous fight, but that takes nothing away from how Lamont Peterson fought. I’m going to take care of business inside the ring and this fight is going to be just as exciting as the last one. The only difference is going to be in the outcome.” Peterson added, “I feel really good about my decision.” The rematch will take place at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
